About
“A great photographer. One of the best I know.”
Benjamin Chertoff comes complete with a decade of mainstream, national media experience. He was 19 when he began his career in magazine journalism, and he never quit. He managed the reportorial team for Popular Mechanics’ notorious 9.11: Debunking the Myths article gaining, in the process, the honor of being part of a supposed conspiracy. Ben has consistently pushed the boundaries of publishing: As editor of PopularMechanics.com, he created and hosted one of the first, successful magazine podcasts, topping out in the low 40s on the iTunes top 100 podcasts. He has extensive experience in broadcast video production, from conception to shooting to editing. His videos have been watched by tens of millions of viewers globally. But his real passion has always been the still image. The first birthday present he remembers asking for was a camera. He was four. By eight, he was shooting 35mm film with a Minolta SLR that still remains in use today. His images have been published globally, in magazines, on the web and in gallery expositions. The United Nations singled out two of his images from his coverage of the US Military response to the January 12, 2010 earthquake in Haiti, where he traveled deeper into urban Haiti than any journalist before him. While embedded with the 82nd Airborne, he captured images of a previously unknown 5000-person refugee camp. He brings the same intensity and focus to the studio and treats all his subjects – whether a ball of yarn or a supermodel – as portrait photography, capturing the essence of the subject (balls of yarn have remarkable personalities). He has appeared on all major network news programs, has been quoted by US News and World Reports and has the honor of his own Wikipedia page. Benjamin Chertoff is based in New York City. He is available for editorial, commercial and commissioned assignments. NB: Benjamin Chertoff does not have an adjustable power control. You get one setting, and it’s somewhere around 11.

“I’m endlessly amazed by Ben’s artistic vision. I’m constantly calling him for last minute projects, and with little information or preparation time he still brings back beautifully realized projects. He throws himself all in, and doesn’t quit until it’s finished.”—Kathryn Mitchell, Programs Director

“Ben’s photographs truly capture the essence and energy of the moment – for better or for worse. And on more than one occasion, I wouldn’t have any recollection of the night before without them.”
Nate Richards, Director of Marketing & Communications TransPerfect / Translations.com
“Benjamin is a real delight to work with. He is a rare breed: extremely smart and intuitive, yet laid back and not full of himself. Benjamin is exactly the kind of guy who most people wish they had the fortune of working with. If you want a superior product or outcome, look no further.”
